New Jersey to Pass Law Mandating Flu Vaccines for Preschoolers

The New Jersey Public Health Council is expected to vote tomorrow on a rule that would require flu vaccines for any child entering day care or preschool. If it is approved, New Jersey would become the first state in the country to impose that mandate.

The flu vaccine is one of four that the council will consider. There is a vaccine that would be given to children entering day care or preschool to protect against pneumonia, and two others that would be given to those entering sixth grade: one to guard against meningococcal disease, a fast-killing strain of meningitis, and the other an additional booster of a three-part shot already administered at a younger age against tetanus, pertussis and diphtheria.

If approved, the meningococcal vaccine requirement would also be a first in the nation for public school students. Currently, Massachusetts requires this vaccine for high school students at boarding schools. New Jersey and other states also mandate this vaccine for college students living in dormitories.

The final decision on the new vaccines will be up to Fred Jacobs, the state’s health commissioner, who “will take the recommendation of the council under advisement,” according to a spokesman. Currently, New Jersey requires that students be given a series of vaccines against nine diseases. The new vaccines would be required as of next September.

Since the new vaccines were first proposed last December, parents and doctors who oppose them have protested against the Department of Health and Senior Services. Thomas Slater, a spokesman for the department, noted that there had been “a good amount of public comment from both sides, and a very extensive review period” leading up to the meeting tomorrow.

At a public hearing in January, about 30 people complained about the proposed vaccines, citing possible side effects and insufficient evidence that they help prevent disease. On Friday, a group opposing the new vaccines held a news conference at the State House in Trenton. And people will have a chance to speak at tomorrow’s meeting, at the health department building in Trenton.

The decision to propose the additional vaccines, especially the one for the flu, was based on recommendations by the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Food and Drug Administration, according to Dr. Eddy Bresnitz, New Jersey’s deputy commissioner of health and the state epidemiologist. Each year, 108 of every 100,000 children 5 or younger are hospitalized with complications from the flu, and about 100 die, according to the C.D.C.

“If you have children and they go to day care, they’re constantly getting sick,” said Dr. Bresnitz. He noted that children were also the best transmitters of influenza virus.

“We believe this will limit the disease, decrease hospitalization and prevent death,” he said, “not only for the children affected but also in the community at large.”

At present, 13 other states require pneumonia vaccines for preschool students, and 27 states have added the extra three-in-one booster for sixth graders. Two other states, Kansas and Vermont, recommend the meningococcal vaccine.

I noticed no where in the article does it suggest that there is waivers that parents can sign to opt-out of the mandatory vaccine program. However, they made darn sure to promote all the scare tactics so parents feel their is no other alternatives because they love their children and do not want to see them get sick. *SIGH* This makes me angrier than hell!

WAIVERS, WAIVERS, WAIVERS, you always have the right to a waiver, and eugenics is the plan for your children. If you love your children and want to see them grow up and have children of their own then DON”T VACCINATE YOUR CHILDREN unless you want them to be screwed up for life then go ahead and take some yourself while your poisoning your child. Ever heard of your immune system? WELL! It works if you let it…..Get your kids out of the government funded indoctrination centers called schools, really it’s nothing more than dumbing down sessions everyday of the week…….my kids have never taken a vaccination and they don’t watch television either and they are the most intelligent, stable, and productive, people I know.

I hate these vaccines. Who has the right to force me to ingest anything?
I guess since we let millions of illegals in our country without medical screenings we need to spend more tax dollars to make sure we can contain any diseases coming across the border.

The schools are scary. They think all of us good people are cattle and need to vaccinate and treat us all for the desired effects.

I don’t know about some of these theories, but let’s just say I don’t take any free flu shots and take no shots unless they are for specific treatments.

These mass injections could be anything and we wouldn’t know. Heck, they could be tracking chips for all we know.

The government doesn’t have the right to force medical treatments on people.
I need to make sure my children don’t go to public school. I hope I can afford a private school for my kids.

Up until about 100 years ago there were no LAWS against drugs. You could ingest anything YOU wanted to ingest. I guess they figure they outlawed or made Illegal various drugs that were once NOT Illegal and arrest you if YOU decide to use them…. Why not make it LEGAL for them to FORCE YOU to get Injections!!!! What a bunch of criminals and THUGS……

Resistance to TYRANNY is obedience to GOD…..

    The numbers are misleading too:

“Each year, 108 of every 100,000 children 5 or younger are hospitalized with complications from the flu, and about 100 die, according to the C.D.C.”

First: the CDC and FDA can no longer be trusted. They are bought and paid for by the drug companies. We knew that.

2nd: 100 die out of what number???? 108?? No. 100,000?? No. 100 out of all the people aged 5 or lower who are REPORTED sick with the flu in the STATE OF NEW JERSEY!!! what’s the population of NJ these days? 7 or 8 million?? And many people have the flu who don’t go to the doctor or stay home from school and just heal on their own. They are not included in the numbers. Your risk of fatality is greater taking the shot.

If Vaccines are as bad as you all say where is the proof of that as well as the proof that it works…. It is a known fact that illness on a world wide spred has decreased due to antiboiotics and vaccinations. ie, plague, influenza even smaller things like strep throat?????????

Any medical procedure that carries with it the risk of injury or death should be the choice of the patient or the patient’s guardian. The choice to vaccinate or not to vaccinate should be based on informed consent. Take a look at the new website for the NJ Coalition for Vaccination Choice http://njvaccinationchoice.org to learn more or get involved in getting this legislation passed in NJ.

I will say this, people ought to have the right as to what vaccines ( if any) their child should get. As a person who runs a pre-school in NJ, the # of children that have been sick is down, so maybe this is working? How can we really tell???? I will get my children vaccinated, as long as they need to, but choice should be an option for all.

Ps- my one son is exempt from all vaccines. He had gotten an air virus from the zoo, which almost killed him. He was in the hospitial for three weeks. His immune systme is very weak. He must go through all kinds of tests in order to get these vaccines, which would be tourture. My other two sons, will continue to get vaccines, again, my choice. But again, choice should be an option. Freedom of Choice.

i come from the uk and choice to vaccinate or not . i hate to say it but far too many parents here just do as they are told its our duty to know the benefits or consequences to a vaccine and not follow what info we are pumped with do your research , i was told if i didnt vaccinate my child would be taken from me so i did until i found out i could opt out after my child had a bad reaction to hepatitis b shot she suffers today with a compromised immune system and recurring mono and shingles you don’t have to prove your religion to opt out this way and there are sites that give you word for word to wright to your schools if the government wont compensate you for damage that they are imposing on your child why allow them to choose for you you take care of your child and pay the cost of care your child lives with there decision for the rest of there life take control of your families dont let anyone tell you you have to do anything there is a way to deal with bullies and dictator ship this is supposed to be a free country . but its becoming only free to those in charge whats right about that
