You are absolutely right, Andy. We ARE past the point where non-violent protests are effective any longer. What worked in 1967-70 simply doesn’t work anymore. Being meek and lowly and carrying signs and expecting that to disrupt the system is a pipe dream. But I’m afraid too many Umarikans are still smoking the pipe.

  5. Ben Steinke on January 13th, 2008

Has anyone noticed that there are a hell of a lot of people with MASKS on? THOSE are, more often than not, the agents provocateur hired by the government to turn NON-violent protests into violent ones so that when the cameras are rolling, the news media can discredit NON-violent protesters and claim that anti-Bush, anti-war, and anti-NWO protesters are violent and out of order.

    Andy,

Don’t think for a minute that RP is the answer to this. He is very much part of the problem for allowing this to happen. There is a lack of action by all of the government defending its citizens.

Anyone that is not sickened by this and the ever escalating violence against civilians here in the US is either stupid or is part of the group doing this.

What is really bad is that if this continues, home grown terrorism will start. They have no chance to make excuses then. I hope that someone intelligent pulls back on the reigns of the “government” so that doesn’t happen.

  9. Katherine on January 13th, 2008

You guys… don’t be idiots. peaceful protests aren’t going to get us anywhere? well… yes. but turning violent would be even worse. do you know what ‘revolutionary youth awaken’ makes you sound like? like militant radicalists in the middle east. do we really want to become a state of terror? do we really want an american taliban?

    Sickening feeling.

I noticed this on digg, and just happen to be reading a book on Blackwater, the private security company working in Iraq and the US.

I’m only on the first chapter, but according to the book, Blackwater’s founder’s family has been helping the conservative/religious right for a long time. In the forward, the author points out Blackwater’s owner has been one of the largest political contributors - but only to Republicans. Never to Democrats.

Sure seems like they already know something about how the next Presidential election is going to turn out!

The author also mentions that Blackwell helped out in Katrina, and is now authorized to provide their private security forces in most states.

The title is “Blackwater: The Rise of the World’s Most Powerful Mercenary Army” by Jeremy Scahill (I have nothing to do with the book, author or publisher). When I bought it, I thought it was a business book, since Blackwater is an incredibly successful business. My blood pressure is through the roof after only one chapter. That’s one heck of a great business model!

  19. Pete on January 13th, 2008

@ Ben Steinke: Your comment about the folks with masks on is way off base; these are no agent provocateurs. Those are anarchists. They wear masks precisely because we have been living in a police state for a LONG time - you don’t need to see their face to hear what they are saying. And as for a lot of so-called non-violent protesters, I’ll trust an anarchist before a Stalinist from ANSWER any day. Not everyone believes in going up against stormtrooper robocops wielding nothing but a hippie peace sign only to get a boot to the head or a tear gas grenade in the back.

Wake up… from time to time the tree of liberty needs to be watered with the blood of patriots and tyrants. Forget all the old left v. right rhetoric. This is about liberty v. authority now, cutting right down the middle of the traditional left and right. Anarchists on the left and libertarians on the right need to see they have more in common with each other than with the communists or the fascists.

There’s no fighting it. Everything is going down a very narrow, very calculated course. There’s no sense in fighting any of it. You don’t have the power. Unless millions of you pick up guns, you don’t have the power.

You won’t pick up a gun. Your keyboard is the only firepower you need, letters your only necessary ammo, correct?

[There’s no fighting it. Everything is going down a very narrow, very calculated course. There’s no sense in fighting any of it. You don’t have the power. Unless millions of you pick up guns, you don’t have the power.] ~Illuminati–Believe

I agree. The amount of cohesion needed between like-minded people, the amount of knowledge needed by the ignorant to become informed, and the amount of muscle power (even everyone armed with a gun won’t be enough) needed to wrestle the world’s strongest interests are entirely too astronomical to consider “fighting it.” I’m sure for many, myself included, these thoughts have ended in a defeated despair.

The only “hope” I remotely have for America, or human civilization in its entirety, may be realized once peak oil is here and gone. Too much of this fascist system depends upon oil, and the hurt will be on once it is gone. The giant corporations and conglomerates with factories abroad will no longer be able to transport their materials, thereby draining them of money and voiding their threat. Much of the equipment at hospital facilities, construction sites, and production lines will be obsolete due to their dependency on oil for the plastic pieces, thereby forcing all to begin considering other ways to sustain life. I have no doubt that another Black Friday is on its way, and one far more permanent and devastating than the past result of the 1930s.

Upon this economic turn, I plan to be armed with the knowledge for my own personal survival. Permaculture, basic survival skills and self defense are only the very tip of the knowledge that I believe I will need. If I hope to lend a hand in the creation of a new way of life for human kind as well, then the amount of knowledge needed will increase ten fold.

I suppose what I’m trying to preach (because that’s what we all seem to be doing), is LEARN all that you can. Protests won’t save us now. Guns won’t save us now. Police video tape mixed with anti-fascist propaganda won’t save us now. If you do out live the economic turn, the only thing that will save you is *working* knowledge, and there are people doing it everywhere: community gardens, sustainable building, intentional communities, alternative schooling, and so on and so on. Suck it all in now, play with it as much as you can in the “calm before the storm,” because we did not have ancestors and parents to teach us the things we will need to know. WE WILL HAVE TO LEARN IT ALL OURSELVES.

This country’s liberty was bought with blood and preservation or restoration of that liberty will also require payments in kind. Imagine the outcome if our revolutionaries had stood before the armies of England’s King blowing bubbles. Or pronounced conclusions of defeat in excuse of inaction.

By the words of that written here it is clear that you have enslaved yourselves. It is a status that none of you can rise above for you lack determination, insight and will. You are not alone in your majorities.

During the rise of the revolutionary war the majority shared your opinion and resolve. It was the minority that stood in demand for liberty and only when forced to choose sides once the shooting began did the percentages change.

The question becomes, “can this happen again?”

Will something provide the spark that lights the tinder that grows into a flame which turns into a fire to race across this nation?

Who knows, but it is clear that those who hold the reins of power over your dominion are as weak as you and lesser in their numbers. It is their organization that empowers them and amazingly enough, it is you that maintains it.

    You have three choices.

    1) You can find comforts in your slavery.

    2) Suffer in sufficient numbers to effect change.

    3) Or leave while you still can.

    Most will take option 1.

A few will take option 3.

If this is not palatable to you, I can only suggest you work within the system. The Portland PD is largely paid and equipped by the people of Portland. Their PD will not risk life and limb for free no matter how much fun they have otherwise.

Nor will the Portland PD be enjoying those paychecks should Portland become a ghost town. If you don’t want to live in a police state, don’t. Whining accomplishes nothing. Move, in large numbers to areas more akin to you liking and be diligent in not allowing Portland to take root again.

Perhaps that will be the fire which sweeps across the nation.

  34. Chance on January 14th, 2008

This is sickening. What’s worse is that a lot of police officers are
borderline retarded former high school bullies. They don’t even know what
rights the Constitution guarantees, nor do they care. This is to any cops who may be reading this - HAVING A BADGE DOES NOT GIVE YOU THE RIGHT TO ASSAULT PEOPLE! HAVING A BADGE DOES NOT MAKE YOU AN “OFFICIAL” OR “AUTHORITY” FIGURE. IT MAKES YOU A MOTHER F**KING PUBLIC SERVANT, YOU CRETINS!!

Just remember this - there’s more of us than there are of you, and if you
push Americans around long enough, sooner or later they’ll start to push
back. We just want to be able to put our guaranteed freedoms into practice
without the fear of being assaulted. But, that’s not good enough for you.
It’s you bastards that can’t abide by a peaceable assembly without bringing
violence into the equation. Tyranny is sweeping this once free nation,
and you cops are agents of it. I hope God forgives you, because we never
    will.

We want peace. We don’t want to see anybody hurt, but when you make a practice of assaulting people, sooner or later the law of averages is
going to catch up to you and you’ll find that one cat who is bigger and
badder than you and he’s not going to take it, and he’ll make you wish to
God you had stayed your fascist little piggy hand. Please, cops everywhere,
wake up to what your masters are asking of you. Don’t hurt us anymore.

We don’t want violent confrontations, and by not assaulting us, you can
help make that happen! Remember what it means to be free Americans! The
next time you hit someone with a club or shoot them with rubber bullets,
remember that they have families and friends, and hopes and dreams just like
you, and all they want is the guarantee that the freedom to live their lives
in peace. When we protest, that’s all we’re after.

  37. Traveller on January 14th, 2008

Want to know where all this is headed? Read the following…

I am a Norwegian politician. I would like to say that difficult things will happen from the year 2008 till the year 2012. The Norwegian government is building more and more underground bases and bunkers. When asked, they simply say that it is for the protection of the people of Norway. When I enquire when they are due to be finished, they reply ”before 2011”.

Israel is also doing the same and many other countries too.

My proof that what I am saying is true is in the photographs I have sent of myself and all the Prime Ministers and ministers I tend to meet and am acquainted with. They know all of this, but they don’t want to alarm the people or create mass panic.

Planet X is coming, and Norway has begun with storage of food and seeds in the Svalbard area and in the arctic north with the help of the US and EU and all around in Norway. They will only save those that are in the elite of power and those that can build up again: doctors, scientists, and so on.

As for me, I already know that I am going to leave before 2012 to go the area of Mosjøen where we have a deep underground military facility. There we are divided into sectors, red, blue and green. The signs of the Norwegian military are already given to them and the camps have already been built a long time ago.

The people that are going to be left on the surface and die with along the others will get no help whatsoever. The plan is that 2,000,000 Norwegians are going to be safe, and the rest will die. That means 2,600,000 will perish into the night not knowing what to do.

All the sectors and arks are connected with tunnels and have railcars that can take you from one ark to the other. This is so that they can be in contact with each other. Only the large doors separate them so that the sectors are not compromised in any matter.

I am very sad. Often I cry with others that know that so many will learn too late, and then it will all be over for them. The government has been lying to the people from 1983 till now. All the major politicians know this in Norway, but few will say it to the people and the public - because they are afraid in case they too will miss the NOAH 12 railcars that will take them to the ark sites where they will be safe.

If they tell anyone, they are dead for sure. But I don’t care any more about myself. Mankind must survive and the species must survive. People must know this.

All the governments in the world are aware of this and they just say it is going to happen. For those of the people that can save themselves I can only say reach for higher ground and find caves up in the high places where you can have a food storage for at least five years with canned food and water to last for a while. Radiation pills and biosuits are also advisable if your budget allows it.

For the last time I say may God help us all… but God will not help us I know. Only each person individually can make a difference. Wake up, please…!

I could have written to you using another name but I am not afraid of anything any more. When you know certain things, you become invincible and no harm can come to you when you know that the end is soon.

I assure you 100% that things will happen. There are four years to prepare for the endgame. Get weapons, and make survival groups, and a place where you can be safe with food for a time.

Ask me anything and I will answer as much as I know about the Norwegian connection to all this. And just look around: they are building underground bases and bunkers everywhere. Open your eyes, people. Ask the governments what they are building, and they will say ”Oh, it’s just storage for food”, and so on. They blind you with all the lies.

The marks of the alien presence are also there, and I often see the Norwegian elite politicians are not what they say they are. It’s like they are controlled in every thought, and what they have to say is just as they are told to do things in such manners. It is clear for me who they are, and who they are not. You can see it in their eyes and in their minds.

Remember that those who are going to be in and around the city areas in 2012 are those that are going to be hit first and die first. Later the army will purge the rest of the survivors and they have a shoot to kill order if there is any resistance to bring them into the camps where every one will get marked with a number and a tag.

I also see that Benazir Bhutto is spoken of on your site. Her death was tragic. I have met Benazir, as you can see. You will also see from the photographs that I have met with a number of other notable politicians and world leaders.

The public will not know what happens till the very end, because the government does not want to create mass panic. Everything will happen quietly and the government will just disappear.

But I say this: don’t go quietly into the night. Take precautions to be safe with your family. Come together with others. Work together to find ways to solve all the many problems you will face.

    Kind regards
    _______________

There’s more going on than just the erosion of freedom. There are things you are not being allowed to know. America is being put aside, by those who control the media and information stream, as a dinosaur whose time has come. It might be time to look elsewhere for a solution and a place to live as a free person.

Why don’t you people actually do something with your lives than waste our time trying to convince the youth of America that they are growing up in a police state. Shame on you for building such sensationalism in a world where that is the last thing we need. You need to learn to focus on the bigger issues at hand rather than these few incidents in which a few rights may have been violated. After all, if it werent for police then all you criminals would be running loose on the streets.

Honestly, this is when you fight back. I love how people diss on France, but people riot there at the drop of a hat. We need to give our government something to be afraid of. Next time they will second guess macing and strong-arming crowds. Seriously. People should have started breaking windows, tipping cars, setting shit on fire.

I was at a rally at the Daley Center in Chicago a couple years or so ago. There was a group of anarchist kids who set a shopping cart on fire. Then the group of people just marched around the city beating on drums and dancing and stuff. I don’t think it really solved a hell of a whole lot of anything.

  48. Say Your Worst on January 15th, 2008

I remember back more than 15 years ago when I was in 4th Grade. Our 4th Grade teacher had told us about an instance where the Government had been watching her husband shortly after World War II.

She explained to us that the two of them had been at a party or wedding. He had some to drink, and was joking about having his hand up straight like Hitler. There was some kind of Government worker there.

She told us he was being closely watched for nearly 5 years following the incident, and then declassified the information after finding he posed no threat.

This is exactly what they are doing right now!

  49. Daniel on January 15th, 2008

So the cops are using a camcorder to record people at a public protest.

First off, you’re at a PUBLIC protest, therefore giving up ANY sort of “privacy” you think you have. Walking around the middle of a big city waving a sign and demanding privacy is just moronic. If you don’t want the cops to see your face, don’t show up. But wearing masks at a public protest is just ASKING to get in trouble.

The section of the video on how the cops were “torturing” the protesters because they wanted them to move back, is, honestly, ridiculous. If using pepper spray and billy clubs is torture, the ACLU would have sued into next year.

The narrator’s statement that the police were doing what they were doing is suspect. The scenes are edited so as to not show what happened BEFORE the conversation the police had with each other, nor does it show the intervening time between the conversation and the police attempt to push them back.

If the Secret Service ordered the police to push the crowds back, they are legally obligated to do so. If the police gave a lawful order for the crowd to move back, and they didn’t, the police are within their rights to use minimum force they deem necessary to uphold law and order. When 5000 protesters are screaming in the streets, cursing and antagonizing a couple of hundred cops, minimum force is a lot more forceful that what is necessary to control an equal number of people.

It is your Constitutionally granted right to protest the things that you don’t agree with. But antagonizing police, ignoring lawful orders, hiding behind mask, IN PUBLIC, and then being surprised when a situation that is already tense, involving a group of people who are suspicious by nature, gets out of hand is, quite frankly, stupid.

It’s people like that who give the civil rights protesters of the 50s and 60s a bad name. Civil disobedience is one thing. Picking a fight to start a riot is different. Show up to a visit by the president in a mask, screaming and cursing, and then refusing to allow your picture to be taken? You deserve everything you get. Dr. Martin Luther King didn’t have to hide behind a mask. And I’ve got 20 bucks that says that mask would come off in a quarter of a second if it was a news camera that was filming, and not a police camera.

Oh and BTW, the voiceover was quite good, just the right note.

  52. Jeff on January 15th, 2008

The fact of the matter is that this video is an example of crowd control in a controlled perimeter! What the narrator never talks about is the high priority individuals inside of the hilton! Whenever i see one of these extremist protests i laugh, you have the right, but the police have a job to do and the protest might interfere with their DUTY! Though our corrupt political environment is disturbing, one must also look at their own actions and surroundings and question whether they are acting appropriately or extreme!

  53. jumpinjebus on January 15th, 2008

Oh come off it, for fucks sake. They capture these details so that they can identify people who are known for making trouble. If you don’t want to be thrown to the ground at a protest don’t fucking go. Plain and simple, these kinds of things are common sense people. I’m not supporting the police action at all but you have to use your brain. You do have the right to assemble, but when the cops tell you its time to go its time to go. They don’t do it to be dicks, they do it to protect the safety of the large number of people there. We have these things called laws in our country. The cops gave them the time to make their point and when it was time to shut down nobody wanted to leave. If it had been a small crowd the cops would have simply arrested those who would not comply with a lawful order. The fact that children as young as 3 were sprayed with pepper spray should be brought up as negligence on the part of the parents. There is no reason to have a 3 year old at a protest, especially when everyone there knows full well it only takes one person to turn from peaceful to violent. So basically what I’m getting at is this… if you don’t like it go somewhere else. The police have their own safety to ensure as well as those of the crowd.

As for the posts saying don’t go to protests if you don’t want to get hurt. Screw you. I suppose protests shouldn’t happen then because of the possibility of police brutality. Just end the protests for fear of being hurt, how convenient for the Federal Government. NO PROTESTING BECAUSE OF FEAR.

We need to stand up. I know we are headed in a downward spiral, but its the littlest of hope that can get this country and world through all the chaos. I want to see my generation rise up, have a revolution, and take back what is ours. Realistically, it will not happen overnight. Realistically, we may fall into oblivion. I will NOT stop protesting, passively or actively. No one should. And for those who think protesting is just as horrible, wrong, and demeaning–wake up. We wouldn’t have some of the things in this country if it weren’t for protesting. It is not a love it or leave it scenario. Wanting change for the betterment of this country, society, and world is not demeaning. To sit back in ignorance, and then suggest that those who don’t like this country should leave, is an easy way out. Why shouldn’t anyone fight to keep this land “free”?

The vulgarity to compare this with fascism. I’m glad that police keeps an eye on potential lawbreakers. These people are hooligan scum and self proclaimed anarchists.”

What the fuck is wrong with you? Anarchists aren’t people? They don’t deserve natural human rights? This video shows that the police attack was planned, not caused by “potential law breakers”. You’re speaking for police breaking the constitutional rights of peaceful protesters! You’re also speaking against human and constitutional rights. This is the equivalent of someone writing a legal newspaper article and being shot, beaten, and sprayed for it! Common, spraying a fucking baby? That’s right? What the fuck is wrong with you? Go take a look in the mirror and rethink EVERYTHING. You’re speaking against freedom, justice and rights (THAT WERE PROCLAIMED BY THE GOVERNMENT THEMSELVES). You’re insane. Please name me a way in which this is NOT fascism, for that’s exactly what it is. I don’t know what you’re justification is for possibly thinking what was done is right, but whatever it is, you really need to think again.

  67. TisStupid on January 18th, 2008

If you have to resort to propaganda, selectively editing videos, and pure conjecture; you will never convince a majority of thinking people your allegations are true. Post the entire unedited police video if the facts truly support your argument.

This clip’s presentation is absolutely horrible. The narrator’s voice is grating, and sounds as if she swallowed a bottle of muscle relaxers before laying down the audio. The video takes events out of context and states conjecture without factual evidence. It also uses propaganda techniques to sway opinion by inter-dispersing clips of Nazi Germany with clips of 2002 Portland, OR.

The video begins by showing hand-held police footage of a young man police singled out as being a “leader.” The narrator assumes it is because he is a leader of a protest movement. It is just as likely that the man was the leader of a group of people who committed a crime in the past and that was why he was singled out. There is no proof that he was a victim due to his political dissent.

The video then shows more police footage with officers zooming in on people in the crowds who are wearing masks. Again, the narrator assumes they are being recorded so that their faces can be associated with their political positions. Yet, it is more likely that in the heightened state of security that we all live in, someone might be hiding their identity at a rally because they intend to commit a crime. Police zoom in on tattoos and other identifiable characteristics so that if a crime is committed at the rally, and a witness describes what the person was wearing, the tapes can be used as evidence.

If the narrator was really that worried about having her identity associated with her political beliefs then she wouldn’t have pointed out her own image on one of the police tapes. She also wouldn’t have used her own ridiculously droning voice to narrate this video. We all live safe and secure in our rights as guaranteed by the constitution. You will not be arrested for your political views.

The video ends by showing select portions of police footage of officers pushing a resistant crowd away from an area by using pepper spray, batons, and rubber bullets. The video shows a lead officer describing how the crowd will first be told to leave, and if they resist, how officers will use batons and pepper spray to push them back. These statements are made to notify the rest of the officers as to what the Rules of Engagement are for the event so that all the officers will be able to work together to accomplish that goal.

Conveniently, it appears that key footage connecting those statements to the actual action is missing. The video also shows clips of news reports stating that the police used force in response to a bottle being thrown, and then shows select portions of the police footage as if it were proof no bottle was thrown. Based solely on the video, we do not know what happened prior to the officers statements to cause the police to want to move the crowd. We also are unable to see the full news reports to find out what contextual information exists to collaborate the reporters assertions.

Fortunately I was able to find a news report from the day of the incident: Police Shoot Pepper Spray At Portland Protestors [http://www.komotv.com/news/archive/4068886.html]

To stop this, simply take all of your money out of the banks. When you get paid, withdraw all of it. Pay no city, county, state fee or tax. Buy the bare necessities to survive, nothing more. If many people do this, it will definitely get noticed by the regime. Ignore all official communications, and make them come get you…. tie up the courts as long as you can arrange to do it.
Did you ever stop to think what would happen if 50 people ran out of gas blocking all necessary high traffic roads at rush hours, every day? This would tie up the city in knots. Naturally it should be 50 different people every day. Imagine this in large cities.

The narrators voice is a bit weak. I found the connections to the holocaust tenuous and a bit insulting. There are many other modern day examples of police state fascism that could have been used without resorting to using the holocaust for ’shock value’.

I think you’ve got the idea there Dusty. Tax free is the way to be.

After being tear-gassed in Quebec at the FTAA rally in 2001 I can say that the mix between impotent rage and disbelief about the war between protesters and the police is caught pretty well in this video. Maybe a bit melodramatically, but hey.

That the police are protecting the rich and powerful is nothing new. The video does raise some questions that need to be answered though - what can you do when the police assault someone. Even if buddy had a warrant for his arrest it has to be against the law to take him down so violently.

  73. Mrice on January 20th, 2008

Yet again, more video footage of police over-abusing their power. Dont they see that all we want is peace? Fighting a war that is not ours? Sending our own men to fight for only one thing, and that thing would be oil. Its all about the oil. Dont you realize, everytime the american economy is plummeting, something outrageous happens (most recently 9/11), which more of the north american population suffer for in other deaths, then of course is blamed on a middle eastern country, the government is so convinced that they are the ones to blame. War is the greatest way for a government to make fast cash, and if ppl didnt realize this by now, then they should open their eyes.

Yes, I do realize that as policemen it is their duty to “protect and serve”. Well, this is defenitely not a demonstration of protecting, because the only protection I see was for the president, and has given no protection to his own ppl. And the only thing they are serving are large doses of un-necessary pepper spray and using pepper guns.

But to the real fighters out there, the ppl wanting to stop this war and get our good ppl out of iraq, the government will always try to have the superiority over any situation. However, I have witnessed that with enough ppl and enough organization, they were able to make a difference. Movements come with time and ppl wanting to make a difference! So let’s make that movement and make a difference!

    Peace n much love

Let us not forget that there are provisions in the constitution that remind us that when our government becomes an entity that is out of control, we have the right AND the responsibility to stop it.

Peaceful protests were great when they were shocking. No one is disturbed or impressed any more.

We need to have a new means of taking back control of our government and putting ourselves back on the right track.

No one should advocate violence by any means, homegrown terrorism is not the answer… we can look to Ireland as proof of that.

We need leaders that recognize that we are lost… leaders that are not in league with lobbyists and big business… we need to look to leaders that did not spend years as lawyers!!

What happened to the ideal that our country was to be run by the PEOPLE!! We need plumbers, electricians, artists, skilled laborers and tradesmen… and veterans running our country… people that understand what it’s like to live under the fascist regime that we find ourselves in now.

    Wake up and RESIST people!

What’s good for the goose is good for the gander. The protesters should make it a habit to have a few people film the police and identify THEM. That way, when THEY break the law, that evidence can be presented. And heck, they also won’t know what else will be done with that video, that information. And then the police will know that same insecurity that we feel.

Law and order are necessary to maintain a society. However, the specifics of these are arbitrary and usually are more products of the time than the “best” possible solution. Obeying these laws is your choice. Blowing bubbles is your choice. Being a police officer your choice. So is thinking about what you are up against and taking the proper measures to defend yourself. To think that the police would not react this way is incorrect. Those with power will use it the first chance they get. As would you. If you have interests, find those of a like mind, organize, and protect them. As a human, it’s all that you can do. May the Light shine on the righteous.

I really don’t think most of the people these days really understands real oppression of people’s rights. This isn’t oppressing the first amendment. Did they ever say they couldn’t protest? No. If anything, they at worse wanted them to move. They used excessive force to meet their means, but that by no means is them taking away our rights. Go and do a protest like that in a truly fascist Country and see if all they do is pepper spray you. You’d be lucky to walk away alive from something like that in a real fascist place.

People today love to cry about what they think they no longer have, but are never willing to take action and do what’s needed to make a difference. If you want change, then make change; don’t just sit around cheering someone else on to make the change for you.

A couple of things need to be said. The narrator is overly dramatic and to be honest does exaggerate in a number of instances. Is it odd that the police were blatantly taking surveillance video, no. I don’t like it, but it’s naive to think that the practices of surveillance haven’t been occurring for the entirety of history. It is a very interesting video and I’m not a fan of the police, but in all honesty this video should be taken with a grain of salt. The best thing one can do is gain as much knowledge as possible concerning any given issue. Draw your own conclusions then. I do find it odd though that in one of the most prosperous nations in the world people think the situation has gotten dire. It isn’t pretty, but we have very few grounds on which to complain. In relation to many other places in the world we are still quite well off. That is significant and important to take into consideration.

Kai, that is “New World Order (NWO), dumbed-down thinking and speaking! This is NOT an isolated incident! These abuses are “greater and shorter” between, so to speak! In other words, they are increasing exponentially! But most people like you can’t see the bigger picture! You’re so used to watching “worse”, fake violence in fictional movies, and reading it in “Stephen-King-like” books, that you are “immunized” to real abuse of power violence! Wake up and smell the fascism! This stuff is getting worse and worse, and it’s no longer isolated! The protest gatherings are smaller per gathering, but the number of them has also increased exponentially! They are going on almost all the time now, almost every weekend and some on weekdays, or on both weekdays and weekends at the same time period; and, as a result, though the VAST majority of protesters are completely peaceful and non-violent, these incidents of police brutality are increasing! Come out of your dumbed-down mindset and recognize that the government “authorities” are indoctrinating and conditioning us to accept their violence and to not exercise our God-given, natural, Constitutionally-given right AND DUTIES to stand up against their abuses of authority under appearance of so-called “legality” and/or “justification” for their evil actions!

Read the Declaration of Independence again and again until it sinks in! When “our” government gets this tyrannical and despotic, it is our DUTY to alter or abolish it and to find new guards for our future security, not to make excuses for the increasingly law- and rights- violating, and torturous, “authorities”, and to just be like, “oh, it’s much better here than anyplace else, so just be grateful and stop making a fuss”! Once again, that’s EXACTLY the kind of way they want you and all or most of us to think! Stop falling for it! Yes, we thus far still have a lot to be thankful in this country, but they’re taking it all away, little by little, more and more, and it’s happening much faster right now than it’s EVER happened in the U.S. before! We MUST NOT take ANY of it lying down! That too is exactly what they want! They not only want us to be grateful for the police state, they also want us to be grateful that they’re beating the crap out of innocent people, macing infants, poisoning us at every turn, killing us, etc.! Well, the heck with that! Doing that is NOT our duty to do! Our DUTY is to stand up against all of this crap and take our country back, turning it into a mostly free country again! Don’t continue to sit back and excuse this crap! And don’t tell me you’re not excusing it! That’s exactly what you’re doing!

  93. Marty Funkhauser on February 6th, 2008

The guy probably had a warrant out and/or had prior run-ins with law enforcement at not-so-peaceful demonstrations.

To make it appear as though they arrested him for no reason whatsoever is simply ludicrous and points to some nice propaganda of your own.

  94. Tui on February 7th, 2008

To the more militantly minded: I think that in terms of demonstrations, non-violence is best, both morally and strategically. Violent demonstrations would have far too much potential for innocent loss of life, be it innocent bystanders or non-violent protesters caught in the cross fire. In addition, violent mobs will generally be overpowered by police anyway, and not accomplish anything but a little vandalism. And vandalism is better done guerrilla style anyway.
However, this does not mean that we should not be prepared to fight for our rights if/when the government becomes more oppressive and starts large-scale detention of dissidents. But this doesn’t mean going to protests and throwing Molotov cocktails or shooting cops. That will only accelerate oppression, without putting a significant dent in the strength of the government. Also, at the next demonstration, instead of non-lethal rounds, you can expect Kent State times 10.
Listen: Find someone who know who owns a gun. Ask them to teach you to shoot. Don’t worry about seeming inexperienced to the person. A lot of gun people are like bible-thumpers, they are thrilled at the prospect of “converting” someone, and they’ll probably be more than happy to teach you how to shoot safely. Once you feel comfortable with a gun, go out and buy one. Figure out if a rifle, a handgun, or a shotgun would be better for defending yourself in your particular situation. Get familiar with your gun, practice with it, and so on. If/when the government soldiers come to bring you to the camps, pick off as many of them as you can before they have to pry the guns from your cold dead hands.
“right-wing” Libertarians and “left-wing” anarchists can learn a lot from each other. In fact, we may have to in order to survive.

  95. Bret on February 7th, 2008

Perhaps the police took video in case a riot broke out. Perhaps they we’re trying to identify leaders and get details to that if anything happened they would have a way to identify people. Do you honestly think in “police states” they have the freedom of information act where you can get access to the police video?

I mean seriously, conspiracy theorists are guilty of the same fear mongering that the government is. You have cameras so do they. I don’t see the cops presenting your video with a voice-over asking why you need to tape them, wondering why you need such close video of them, what you need details for.

Suggesting that the local police are involved in some sort of secret government conspiracy is just dumb. Almost anyone can become a cop. Almost anyone can post a video on the web suggesting we’re living in a police state. My god if we are and they haven’t taken your site down then you must be one of them! Everybody Panic! This is bullshit.

What the police did was WRONG, undeniably. So why then, did you go and spice up the video with MORE lies about them? By lying to make the Police look worse, your argument and your cause becomes less credible to a truly educated crowd — and YOU DIDN’T EVEN NEED TO LIE TO PAINT THE POLICE AS THE WRONG-DOERS.

You have lied to paint the Police out to be a truly evil authority — this makes you NO BETTER OF AN ALTERNATIVE to their rule. Extremists on both sides, go to hell.

    When did you lie?

1.) When you said the media said that “it was okay, that everything was fine.” No, anyone who has more than half a brain can CLEARLY tell that the media is appalled and dumbfounded by the use of pepper spray in response to the throwing of a single bottle from the crowd — they are decrying it, not endorsing.

2.) When you said that pepper spray kills — it doesn’t, only in rare cases.

3.) When you blamed the cops for gassing YOUR CHILDREN which YOU BROUGHT to an UNRULY PROTEST.

If you want me to be at your side, show me the truth — the un-edited, un-cut truth — not your sack of bullshit propaganda. Propaganda is employed by the enemy, by our current government which consistently limits our rights. You are right, we need to fight back and we need to get our liberties back and we need to remind our “dear” leaders that we, not they, have the power — but the instant you start amassing people around FALSEHOODS, I want NO part of you at my side in that revolution — because you are as bad as the enemy we wish to rid ourselves of.

I’m anti-police and pro-protest. I was arrested in DC during the IMF protest. But protesters have to be realistic: blocking traffic is disrupting other people’s lives and businesses.

That it’s for a good cause is mostly irrelevant - it’s still disruptive, and it’s reasonable that the people who’s lives are being disrupted want it stopped and employ the police to keep public right of way clear. The rest of the public has as much civic right to that as protesters do to speaking their voice.

With that bein said let me continue…Cops are filming this protest because it saves them alot of time in court in case of one the protesters decided to be real stupid and say blow them selves up to prove a point(i know thats drastic but understand the concern, it can happen) For 2 you should be happy they are filming and making it public, because in any result of an unlawful arrest you have the proof that you did nothing..smile about that. For third, why the fuck do you care if you are being filmed? If you are that compassionate about the cause you are protesting then be happy your face is on the front page of the police report, so the next time they see you, they already know what the fuck your about. Fourth..you’ll love this one…its there right as Americans to film just as much as it is for you to film them..????? What the fuck??? Are you all fuckin complete morons cause i dont see that at all (i.e. police filming)…the woman that narrated this and also assume put the montage together. Is a fuckin idiot!
She points out that they even film your shoes…Once again what the fuck? NO FUCKIN SHIT!!!! Lets say that same man shot a cop in the face..would i be sad…NO! But its there right and thats there evidence too…so you fuckin idiots need to grow the fuck up and understand your rights are their rights
(as citizens), NUFF FUCKIN SAID! We as americans need to come to grips on the facts of our constitution and realize we ALL have the voice to be heard, its just how you channel it. Dont blame the the people blame the politicians, dont blame the warrior for the war, blame each and every one before us that let this shit happen to our beloved country and protest them! Don’t call it a police state call it a democracy mishap and find a way to revolt the proper way…cause if you had a voice that was meant to be heard, i would be able to listen to it. But its obvious that thru ignorance and onesided views and objections that, that will never happen! Open your fuckin eyes and really go in your mind and think about that, YOU are the one destroying Us and Us is the one destroying you, so figure out the equal balance between the two…THEN REACT!!!!!!! ps. the hitler shit was cute, but to the moron that made this, if this was germany in the late thirties and early forties you would of been shot right in the fuckin face, which i assume didnt happen..so grow the fuck up…know your rights little boys and girls..DONT ASSUME THEM!!!!!

I am as alarmed by abuses of government power depicted here as anyone but at the same time I am not naive. The folks who organized these protests were surely *overjoyed* at the police response. It is exactly the kind of publicity they need and crave to make their point and that is exactly what they did. If the police had been peaceful and nice it would have been a let down to the organizers. Be honest. Again, what the LE did in this case is deplorable, but let us not kid ourselves about the motivations on both sides. I mean, who, in their right mind, takes a 3 y.o. to a protest like this? Shades of kids as shields in Afghanistan there. The narrator’s voice caresses and savors the unfolding events in the video like a commercial for chocolate for pity’s sake.

One day its gonna be them against the others so there is 2 types of people. cops and non-cops, where and when can we check their authority. They have no authority by whose authority.>>????@!!@@!!@@??????

It brings me a sense of hope to see all you anti-police state people stand up for your freedoms that the Bill of Rights gave to us, but these New Age Globalization UN police troopers are trying to destroy. Thank you all, for struggling to turn the tide before we are caught under the control of a totalitarian state. Just look at El Cajon, CA with its license plate scanning technology to issue you instant tickets for not paying the Man; or their telling you; you can’t smoke in your own damn home or apartment. This forum shows us that are freedoms are still intact, lets keep it that way!
