Snoop Chief: Mohamed Atta Took Us by Surprise

“The US Director of National Intelligence asserts that the terror attacks of September 11, 2001, were caused by weak domestic wiretapping laws,” David Edwards and Mike Sheehan write for Raw Story. “Vice Admiral Mike McConnell, former head of the National Security Agency who was appointed DNI in 2007 by President Bush, spoke today to a group of students in St. Mary’s City, Missouri, about the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA), a federal statute that outlines procedures for electronic surveillance by the US intelligence community.”

According to McConnell, “alleged 9/11 conspirator Mohamed Atta” was able to pull of his dastardly deed because he was “invisible to your intelligence” after he entered the United States. “He’s now a US person,” said McConnell, with all the rights and privileges of ordinary American citizens.

Inside the US, McConnell continued, Atta would be “invisible to your intelligence community. As long he doesn’t break the law, law enforcement can’t conduct surveillance, [because] they don’t have probable cause.”

Terror network al-Qaeda understood that, McConnell then said, “and that’s why 9/11 happened, in my view.”

Sure, and big fat chartreuse raspberries grow on the dark side of the Moon.

In fact, the NSA has snooped the American public at large for decades now. Mr. McConnell needs to find a computer and do a Google search of the word SHAMROCK. It was a massive snoop program predating the NSA, created by Truman in 1952. SHAMROCK snooped all telegraph data entering and leaving the country. It was done with the help of RCA Global, ITT World Communications, and Western Union International.

And then there is ECHELON, the snoop system that captures and analyzes virtually every phone call, fax, email and telex message sent anywhere in the world. It was first reported in 1988 and was investigated by a committee of the European Parliament.

Of course, this snoop technology was only used on guys in distant and remote caves. Once they entered the United States, they were protected by the Constitution.

And angels dance on the head of a pin.

Either Mr. McConnell is an idiot or an accomplished liar. Suffice it to say idiots are not appointed to oversee the CIA, NSA, DIA, FBI, NRO, etc. ad nauseam, a virtual alphabet soup of “intelligence” agencies.

Mohamed Atta attended the International Officers School at Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery, Alabama, a fact reported by the Washington Post, Newsweek, and Knight Ridder newspapers, although of course this uncomfortable bit of information was soon enough relegated to the memory hole. Supposed hijacker Abdulaziz Alomari attended the Aerospace Medical School at Brooks Air Force base in Texas, and Saeed Alghamdi attended the Defense Language Institute in Monterrey, California.

And then there was Able Danger. “Now, almost exactly four years after 9/11, the facts appear to have been turned upside down,” Dr. Daniele Ganser wrote for ISN Security Watch in August, 2005. “We now learn that Atta was also connected to a top secret operation of the Pentagon’s Special Operations Command (SOCOM) in the US. According to Army reserve Lieutenant-Colonel Anthony Shaffer, a top secret Pentagon project code-named Able Danger had identified Atta and three other 9/11 hijackers as members of an al-Qaida cell more than a year before the attacks.” In fact, so central was Atta to Able Danger, his picture graced a chart at SOCOM headquarters.

According to the German newspaper Die Zeit, Mohamed Atta and his U.S. military base trained accomplices were followed around by the Mossad’s “Israeli art students” and the CIA. Ramzi Binalshibh “led the CIA to Atta, who was then followed to the States,” writes Jack Riddler. “Did the surveillance of Atta continue once he was in the States? Technically, the CIA would have been required to cease the surveillance and pass the information on to the FBI, since the law before Sept. 11 banned CIA domestic operations. Of course, that law has most often been honored in the breach.”

In other words, Mike McConnell takes you for an idiot. As head honcho of the snoop and subversion infrastructure, McConnell knows all about Mohamed Atta and his fellow intel operatives. He’s playing you for a fool.

But then many of us are fools, or at least witless chumps, too distracted to be bothered. After all, there is no need for such information, not when we can become insta-voyeurs, watching Britney Spears shopping for a pregnancy test at a California Rite Aid store.

It is of little concern guys like McConnell are sharpening their knives and preparing to deal a death blow to the Constitution.

    This is so maddening! The lies are just getting more outrageous. If only people read the news everyday, you wouldn’t be treated like a caged animal or a little child by those in power because you would have the power. Knowledge is power and the way the system is set up nowadays, its taken that idea away and flooded it with mass consumer culture that in the end will mean nothing. Who cares if you’re not considered “cool.” Get real, the people who are supposedly cool and popular are ultimately not. Live your life, don’t be distracted by things that don’t matter. Atta was known about for years before you idiots because we were training him, DUH!

    It is obvious they are all acting like a bunch of criminals who are doing everything in there power, especially since they are in power, not to get caught. From the Bush administration, to FEMA to the CIA, the FBI, Bankers the military, the democrats and the republicans alike, the media and so on. What a ring ! How could this sort of thing allowed to grow this powerful. Perhaps it started from the landing on the moon to the assasination of Kennedy and the propoganda’s of the cold war. Who knows ? Only it’s large, it’s rotten , it’s powerful, it’s everywhere and they are your leaders who will ultimately attempt to finish you off. When you have no more rights left you will be helpless and they will finally be at peace to proceed with there agendas as they please. I wonder why Ron Paul is being ignored ? Hmmm !!!     I had a idea that would show the criminal rulers how serious we can be ! how??? well not sure many would do it though and thats trashing our TV sets just to show mainstream Fox news and others how serious Peace is in the minds of good humans.     McConnell is spewing so much crap it’s utterly breathtaking. The amount of foreknowledge within the intelligence/military/security community was so extensive it would require pages upon pages to reference the tip of the iceberg, let alone the main body of evidence. I would like to hear McConnell’s explanation of “how did the *alleged* hijackers knew in advance that the US military would ignore the standard time-honored protocols by getting jets off the ground within minutes of a confirmed “airplane off course” message from the FAA (4 of them in an hour, in fact)… while flying their commandeered planes as far west as Kentucky and Ohio, regarding Flights AA77 and UA93 respectively”. In the case of Flight 77, the transponder was even switched back on, telling the FAA military exactly where they were located…. whereupon then they proceeded to fly back across the most heavily guarded airspace on the face of the Earth, literally overflying several USAF bases on the way back, and then performing a 270º steep diving descent to hit the part of the Pentagon where no senior officials had their offices. And the guy allegedly in the cockpit “couldn’t fly to save his life”.

    No, Admiral McConnell has no explanantion that tallies with the facts, because that would indoubtedly incriminate a number of senior officials (as well as some of his Pentagon cronies), and possibly himself in the process. So he comes out with some fascist-wannabe bullbiscuits about how “Americans need to be more surveilled”. Pah! Admiral McConnell, not only are you are a lying traitor of the worst kind, but also you (and many of your colleagues) deserve to be investigated and court martialed for being accessory-after-the-fact (or worse) as regards the murder of 3000 people on 9/11/2001. And yes, a surveillance society is a FAILED society: Pin that one onto your row of “medals”.

According to Army reserve Lieutenant-Colonel Anthony Shaffer, a top secret Pentagon project code-named Able Danger had identified Atta and three other 9/11 hijackers as members of an al-Qaeda cell more than a year before the attacks.
    Able Danger was an 18-month highly classified operation tasked, according to Shaffer, with “developing targeting information for al-Qaeda on a global scale”, and used data-mining techniques to look for “patterns, associations, and linkages”. He said he himself had first encountered the names of the four hijackers in mid-2000. Schaffer also stated that when he informed the FBI and urged them to arrest Atta, the Pentagon’s lawyers intervened and protected Atta for reasons that remain unclear.Source:9 Dr Danielle Ganser: http://www.globalresearch.ca/i.....cleId=867. It is mainstream news that Atta had been monitored in Germany by German intelligence and the CIA because of his suspected links to Al Qaeda so does McConnell expect us to believe that when he went to America that Atta “was invisible to us”.
    Has McConnell forgotten why the FBI’s top counter terrorism agent John O’Neill resigned? Just to refresh his memory, John O’Neill resigned in frustration because of repeated attempts to block his investigations into Al Qaeda by FBI headquarters in Washington.Has McConnell forgotten about Coleen Rowley, Robert Wright and Sybil Edmonds who was gagged by Ashcroft in the “interests of national security” when it would have been more in the national interests to hear what she had to say regarding criminality at the FBI.Of course “interests of national security” is the means by which the criminals who were involved in 9/11 always invoke to keep their crimes remain hidden.
    McConnell is nothing but criminal serving the Anti American interests of a corrupt government cabal and the shadow men out of government who are the real power behind the government.Your day will come McConnell when the real “interests of national security” will be served by exposing your lies, crimes and your treason. Your and your fellow conspirators attempts to destroy the American constitution and turn America into a fascist police state in order to protect yourselves from responsibility for your crimes will fail because millions in America and worldwide will not allow you and your co conspirators to destroy the American Constitution which has been the basis of democracy worldwide.
