University Police: Illinois Campus Shooter On “Medication”

As suspected, the Illinois campus shooter, identified as Stephen Kazmierczak, was on medication, although ABC News reports at this time it is unknown what sort of medication.

In the last few weeks, Kazmierczak’s

behavior had become erratic, according to [NIU campus Police Chief Donald Grady], and it is believed the Kazmierczak had stopped taking his medication. The chief declined to specify the type of medication the gunman was on.

As was revealed soon after the shootings at Virginia Tech, Cho Seung-Hui was taking the anti-depressant Paroxetine, which he took from June 1999 to July 2000. Seung-Hui’s “doctor stopped the medication because Mr. Cho had improved,” the New Yorks Times reported on August 30, 2007.

“Recent regulatory warnings about adverse behavioral effects of antidepressants in susceptible individuals have raised the profile of these issues with clinicians, patients, and the public. We review available clinical trial data on paroxetine and sertraline and pharmacovigilance studies of paroxetine and fluoxetine, and outline a series of medico-legal cases involving antidepressants and violence,” notes PLoS Medicine, a peer-reviewed medical publication. “Both clinical trial and pharmacovigilance data point to possible links between these drugs and violent behaviors.”

Bob Unruh, writing for WorldNetDaily, cites Dr. Peter Breggin, a prominent critic of psychiatric drugs and founder of the International Center for the Study of Psychiatry and Psychology, who states that even if Cho wasn’t taking psychiatric drugs the day of the shooting, “he might have been tipped over into violent madness weeks or months earlier by a drug like Prozac, Paxil, or Zoloft.” In his book, The Antidepressant Fact Book, Breggin “warned that stopping antidepressants can be as dangerous as starting them, since they can cause very disturbing and painful withdrawal reactions.”

ABC reports that “Kazmierczak’s interests are listed as corrections, political violence, and peace and social justice, according to [an] essay, and he had plans to co-author a manuscript on the role of religion in the formation of early prisons.” In 2006 Kazmierczak co-authored the essay entitled “Self-Injury in Correctional Settings: ‘Pathology’ of Prisons or of Prisoners,” in which an attached biography describes him as having just begun his graduate work at NIU.

According to Kazmierczak’s coworkers at the Pirates Cove Childrens Theme Park, he had a penchant for violence. “I remember Steve Kazmierczak,” an anonymous coworker wrote on a music site message board in 2006, “the kind of person who injured kids on the train ride cuz he was mental and he shouldn’t be given domain over kids on little faux-traincars with an aluminum baseball bat…”

In short, Kazmierczak appears to be a prime candidate for violent behavior, especially now that authorities in Illinois are revealing that he was on medication, although as of yet unspecified.

Is it simply a coincidence that Mr. Kazmierczak decided to launch his murderous campaign at precisely the time the Supremes are taking up critical issues related to the Second Amendment?

I don’t get it. Why didn’t the other students shoot back?

  3. Faolan Devyn Aodfin on February 15th, 2008

Well you can’t fire back if you do not have a weapon. Guns aren’t allowed on most campi regaurdless of the second amendment or a permit.

  4. Gliscameria on February 15th, 2008

    Spag,

    Exactly.

  5. C. Rakish Spagaletto on February 15th, 2008

Guns are not allowed on campi because they are private property. The owner of the property decides the rules and rightfully so.

Students can decide for themselves whether to attend a school which allows or does not allow them to carry a gun.

The government has never been granted the authority to regulate guns.

The supreme Court recently ruled that the police do not have a Constitutional duty to protect you.

I am in Elk Grove Village, IL where Kazmierczak grew up. There are news vans buzzing around like flys follwing a cow. It is so weird to have this happen so close to home. When are people going to realize that we need not control guns? It is big pharma, and the doctors that push their junk that need to be regulated. I am so sick of hearing about these shooters! The mainstream media reports that they are one meds every time, but never of the consistancy which clearly shows they are always on, or coming off of antidepresants!

I don’t think it was a coincidence that the cell phone service in that immediate area was not working properly, allowing time to confirm death of as many people as possible to make this event more newsworthy.

This many shootings in 14 days is also a byproduct of media exposure! It is a science that can be controlled.

coming off them is very nasty..I have done it more than once..you just want to hurt somebody for even talking to loud..or sneezing..or for saying something..its crazy…but to the point of killing?..no not me, but everyone is affected to varying degrees so sure I can certainly see someone unstable enough getting to that point from withdrawal to quickly..sounds like these docs are just telling their patients to stop cold turkey & that is bad,bad news indeed..the doctors prescribing these anti-depressents? [I have talked to many, many of them too]..believe it or not are not educated/taught one iota on withdrawal & wd symptoms..why?because they are taught in medical school that patients need to stay on ALL drugs cradle to grave..especially anti-depressenrts thats why..& if they need to take them cradle to grave?no need to ever go thru withdrawal..right???

I’ve also heard that there is a type of acne medication that causes these abrupt and violent mood swing and when taken along with anti-depressants makes these people severely disturbed and irrational. Speaking as a diagnosed manic-depressants who has never taken medication for it, my symptoms do cause severe mood swings, depression, lethargy, excitement, anti-social behavior, and even self destructive behavior. I take it for what it is; a chemical imbalance that throws me off quilter ever couple of months. But then again, I won’t let things that piss me off, stay all bottled up inside. If you piss me off, I’m not going away softly or quietly. These people are different. Shy, extremely insecure, cowardly and most of all frightened. I think the drugs block the part of your brain where conscience and reasoning are stored. Because without a conscience, we’re nothing but animals. A sick animal is the most dangerous thing in the woods and it’s no different out here. When I was a teenager my depression was extremely difficult to overcome. my best advice to anyone feeling this way, just like off of Pink Floyd’s Division Bell album ‘All we need to do is keep talking.’ Talking can resolve a hell of a lot more than shooting. I find it hard to believe that these people aren’t pushed away and shunned by their peers and their community for years and it builds
into a psychosis. Monsters aren’t born, they’re made by a sick, callous society. Remember that next time you see your kid picking on somebody because their poor, or shy, or different. There is mechanism in all our brains that says fight or flight, a sick person can’t always differentiate between real and perceived threats, so they take it to the extreme. Just a thought from one of the crazies.

One should know: the pharaohs gave as the salary to their slaves: 3,5 l beer/day/man! Even the women and the children were fed with the alcohol! So, the alcohol was used as a kind of “brain washing” - drunkards don’t search the justice! There are some Egyptian legends that told us that even the goddess Hathor (Isis or Tefnut) couldn’t do the justice among the people because of this drink! But, drinking was forbidden to the the pharaohs and theocrates. The jews’ priests have imitated this religion and writen “our” Bible. No wonder that we are all bored and intoxicated.
The psychiatry is a hand of the “justice” - many people who take psy-drugs are “potential killers”- http://www.ssristories.com/index.php The neocons want us to be assassins. So, they can prove that we need their protection.
We should know too: are all worthy of Individual Sovereignity and Personal Divinity - we don’t need the state for to live in peace, because We are the state! We are all honest people. We don’t need them, but they need us for all kind of taxes! It is a psychological illusion that the state protects us! It steals us!
Only the universal gratuity can save us - without the profit, the neocons can not subsist! Everything must be free of charge! So, nobody need to intoxicate us any more
