The Fed Releases Crisis Peparedness Video

The Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta this past January released a video on crisis preparedness. The timing of such a video being released is suspicious considering the prospect of bank failures and an inflationary collapse of the U.S. monetary system loom large. The U.S. Dollar is at all-time lows and many top economists are predicting that we are entering a very deep recession if not a depression. Although the video focuses in on a potential disaster like a terrorist attack or a weather related event, a financial disaster easily fits into the scope of this video. The focus of the video is on how the Federal Reserve can immediately bring cash back into an area affected by a disaster. During a financial calamity, this will be a key concern because physical forms of money will reign supreme. Runs on the banks occurred frequently at the start of the Great Depression and they could happen here on a frequent basis if things get worse. The Federal Reserve chairman Ben Bernanke even made the prediction that we could soon see bank failures, so this is a concern not just coming from various economists and pundits but also from the top of this criminal banking system.

In the aftermath of a disaster, banks play a vital role, distributing cash to their customers and ensuring that their customers are able to meet the financial needs of their families and their businesses.

Drawing on the experience of bankers who have weathered crisis situations, the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta developed Crisis Preparedness: Reconnecting the Financial Lifeline, a DVD designed to assist bankers with their institutions’ emergency preparedness efforts. Each section of the DVD profiles a facet of crisis preparedness, from preparing and testing a plan to caring for employees to providing cash to customers to working with banks and first responders.

The DVD features interviews with bankers and Atlanta Fed staff. The examples featured in the DVD emphasize the need for crisis preparedness and practical steps institutions can take to be prepared. The DVD includes supplemental in-depth interviews with these featured bankers.

What’s interesting about the video is that it focuses in on how banks will need to be able to make cash readily available in case of a disaster. In the event of a disaster financial or otherwise that results in a run on the banks, banks will not have enough cash to back all the money that people will demand to have withdrawn. There are far more digital credits stored on computers than there are physical paper notes. This will be a huge problem and it appears as if they are trying to address this problem in the video under the guise of other types of disasters. Hurricane Katrina is referenced as an example. According to the video it appears as if even the Federal Reserve used Hurricane Katrina as a test laboratory for disaster preparedness.

Last year the U.S. Treasury Department conducted a disaster drill in preparation for a potential financial crisis. This video release appears to go hand and hand with the concerns that the Federal Reserve has and this video shows that they want their employees to be aware of a potential crisis. Either way, it is clear that the U.S. economy is on the brink of a collapse with gold at all-time nominal highs and assorted commodities going through the roof in U.S. Dollar denominated terms. It is extremely odd that they would release this video at a time of great economic uncertainty. Why would the Federal Reserve release a video like this, if they didn’t have grave concerns about a potential disaster? It is highly doubtful that they would release this for the fun of it. One thing is for sure, the economy is not looking good and you do not want to trust the Federal Reserve or any of their member banks with your money. Buy gold and silver. These precious metals will protect you from the inflation driven depression that might be coming down the pipe more so than any crisis preparedness video.

    Don’t waste your money buying gold and silver. Didn’t you know it is illegal to own gold bullion? Sure, you can buy it on the exchange, but you can’t physically HAVE it. A piece of paper that says you own gold won’t amount to a hill of beans when the you-know-what hits the fan.

    The you-know-what can hit the fan all it wants, it doesn’t mean other countries will stop accepting gold and silver. You have enough of it, you can buy your way out of the country and live in another country. You can bury it so your wealth is preserved. You can buy goods from other countries with gold/silver and sell them locally. When the dollar hit the bottom, you can sell all your precious metal and buy real estate, business, land, etc… Only an idiot puts their wealth in paper during a crisis. Even the stock market shifted from stocks to commodities.

    whether we can have it or not, it depends on whether they can find it and how many lives they are willing to loose to get it.

    I think the point Anthony was making is that the government doesn’t allow you to own physical gold bullion for a reason. It equals power. Someone like Bill Gates could obtain 100 million in actual gold coin or bullion and hire an army of mercenaries with it to take out Washington DC if he wanted to. The government can’t have that, so they allow you to own a piece of stock that SAYS you own the gold bullion, but who will honor a piece of paper? How will you get to Europe with your stock ticket if you need cash to buy a plane ride and/or simply live?

    Anthony and concerned citizen are wrong. It is LEGAL to physically own gold in the US. The 1933 presidential order barring gold owndership does not apply any longer. People buy gold all over the place. You can own both rare coins (better hedge) and bullion. I would split it up between gold and silver though. It is easier to buy necessities using silver since the price is far lower.

    Anthony, you are dead wrong. Gold in any form is 100% legal. In fact, every coin store in America ought to be able to sell you at least a few POUNDS of bullion, coins, and even scrap gold. Buy gold and silver. When cash is gone or worthless, people will be trading in gold and silver.

    In a economic meltdown, what exactly would you ‘liquidate’ your gold/silver to and why? You wouldn’t. You would take an ounce of silver and exchange it directly for enough food to feed you family for a week. No need to convert it to another form (paper certificate) because it wouldn’t be accepted. You have allot of learning and thinking to do Mr Citizen, you better get to it because gold has hit US$1000, oil US$110 and the US$index is on 72…..time is short and the real effects of the credit crisis haven’t even begun yet.

    The gold bullion is useless because a piece of paper is all you have that claims it is yours… that is why you own actual, physical gold. Buy on ebay or scrounge up any piece of gold jewelry (regardless of content). It is predicted that an ounce of gold after this whole 2nd Depression happens will be worth anywhere from $6-6,000… how reliable that information is, I don’t know.

    All I can say is be prepared. Stock up on food, look for a place that you can hide out in while there is civil unrest, and save up what money you can.

    Uh - ok, so I have a bunch of gold and silver. I go someplace and say I want to buy this or that and they take out guns and that’s that. In a real collapse you need: Tools like shovels and axes; Building Supplies like rolls of chickenwire and screening - maybe a roll of heavy black plastic; GUNS and AMMUNITION (yeah, “bad words” I know but what else will allow you to keep what you own?); Camping Supplies. I have seen how fast people become lawless mobs - Now way do I walk around with GOLD and try to do business. Thanks all of you NonCitizen voters - thanks for this CHANGE!
