Bill Maher: Corporate Media Gatekeeper and Security Guard

Activist from We Are Change LA gets under the skin of corporate shill

After HBO employee Bill Maher lent a hand in evicting a “rowdy protester” from his show on Friday, the Associated Press wasted no time characterizing him as a “security guard” for the effort. “Maher on Friday night helped security remove a rowdy protester from the studio during his weekly HBO show ‘Real Time with Bill Maher,’ and it was all captured on live television,” including the point made by the so-called protester. “Maher was talking science during one of his weekly panel discussions when a protester in his audience stood up, held up a smuggled-in sign reading ‘9/11 is a cover up fraud’ and shouted comments to the same effect.”

See a video of the incident:

“Crazy people who still think the government brought down the Twin Towers in a controlled explosion have to stop pretending that I’m the one who’s being naive,” Maher averred last month. “How big a lunatic do you have to be to watch two giant airliners packed with jet fuel slam into buildings on live TV, igniting a massive inferno that burned for two hours, and then think ‘Well, if you believe that was the cause…’ Stop asking me to raise this ridiculous topic on the show and start asking your doctor if Paxil is right for you.”

Here is a clip of Maher’s comment and a pertinent response:

In other words, for Bill and his employer, the very topic of what really happened on September 11, 2001—or simply broaching the subject—is strictly verboten. For some time now the corporate media, as a dutiful handmaiden of government—that is to say, a government purchased by multinational corporations, including HBO’s “parent,” Time Warner—has repeatedly insisted that merely asking how it is an oxygen-starved kerosene fire weakens steel and initiates the collapse of two massive buildings makes one insane, never mind that buying into the absurd Grimm Brothers story that cave-dwelling terrorists ensconced in a medieval backwater were capable of suspending the laws of physics on that day is the very definition of insanity.

On Friday, Maher was so determined to please his employer and make amends for displeasing the government in the past—when he declared the imaginary 9/11 terrorists were not cowards—he rushed from the stage to make sure the protester was man-handled and quickly ushered from the studio. “When security reached the man’s aisle and the man resisted leaving, Maher ran into the seats and helped them push him out the door, shouting ‘Out! Out! Out!’” the Associated Press continues. “Several other protesters, sprinkled throughout the audience, then stood up and shouted… ‘This isn’t the Iowa Caucus, OK, we’re not here to debate,’ Maher shouted with most of his audience cheering him on. ‘This is the problem with live television.’”

Indeed, this is “the problem with live television” and it will continue to be a problem so long as corporate shills such as Bill Maher refuse to acknowledge legitimate questions and label the questioners as mental patients.

It is not so much Bill’s refusal to address the official 9/11 fairy tale—thus rendering him a de facto neocon supporter—but rather his obvious determination to go after those who question the official fish story. Bill Maher is not so much a comedian as an apologist and advocate for the criminal cabal guilty of launching the predetermined “catastrophic and catalyzing event” cynically used as an excuse to decimate what remains of our beleaguered Constitution and foment the “clash of civilizations,” otherwise known as the neocon-neolib global domestication project, determined to reduce the planet to a slave labor gulag based on the China Model, hailed by one-worlders as a miracle.

I was a huge Bill Maher fan until last night. The ONLY reason I keep HBO was for his show and “Curb Your Enthusiasm”
I’ll just no longer watch his show.
Alex Jones is the truest of American Patriots.
We all found out the above article is the truth - Bill Maher said he supported Bush and the government’s 9/11 fairy-tale.
This from a guy who supposedly despises “Goober & Satan” - a.k.a. “Bush and Cheney”
What a big bunch of hypocritical BULL$H!T was wintnessed on his show last night!
Hell, I might save up my pennies and try and become an audience member of his in the future.
If he comes and lays a hand on me, he’ll get a 300lb version of a good ‘ol fashiined Roy D. Mercer A$$KICKING!

Strange isn’t it…Bill was suppose to have lost his ABC show to frat-brained Jimmy Kimmel because of his being “too liberal.”

I applaud the protestors who are acting as real patriots by putting truth above entertainment shows. Perhaps this can be a new tactic…old and young, men and women participating in disruptive patriotism on every live show.

You saw what Geraldo was able to get away with, flipping off NY protesters, and no censure on that.

I was going to email Maher or HBO to send them a well-thought-out rebuttal & a few links but I can’t find any contact info at his “Real Time” site.

Anybody know the email address for Maher or HBO?

Please use this video of the Bill Maher incident because it has subtitles of what the protesters were yelling. I think people might take them more seriously if they know what they were saying. I think Bill and the Audience (and Chris Matthews) could hear them in studio but the microphones didn’t pick it up too well. This video helps explain it better.

You know i think it’s a little over the top and unnecessary to just assume bill maher is being payed off when there are actually alot of people who truly Believe 9/11 was real. I’m not saying it necessarily was real, but that’s just a common misconception of conspiracy theorists–that if someone doesn’t believe your story, they must be part of the system, not just someone influenced by it. I’m not hearing anyone say that maybe bill was actually pissed off as alot of people would be, that his show was being interrupted. You can’t just exageratingly ignorantly advocate the assumption that he was acting with conviction to forward the corporate agenda. Maybe he just doesn’t understand your cause, and is a bit of a dick. Which would probably make for 30% less an interesting article. Truth above all or at least some kind of balance is a good idea i think. Every news writer today is a michael moore for their own cause, and that just sucks ass if you think about it.

While I admire the courageous efforts of these truthers, they must understand that shouting outloud in a crowded room during a tv show is naturally going to turn off most people observing. The only way to open people’s eyes is through educating them with the facts, and this can’t be done in modern American society. The case against the 9/11 fairy tale contains an overwhelming amount of information that must be slowly digested through (gasp!) READING! Today’s lazy minded American public cannot interpret anything that is not spoon fed through the idiot tube which is why 9/11 was so successful in the first place: it was a television event. And television is a one way indoctrination where the audience does not reply. In the end, society as a whole, gets what it deserves.

WE may never know the truth it is so burried in lies with so many unpatriotic whores who don’t mind taking money over freedom.
But everyone knows the official story is a fairy tail and they are as guilty as hell.
as this is the case I predict very big upsets in the 2008 elections
I see what should be a shoe in Hilary Clinton getting trashed so bad that she cries in public . The extra mile into digging up the dirt on her is being done
for free she will be attacked from all sides even here own.
This will be because the people have had it up to their eye balls with corporate whores and deceptions. It is why Ron Paul will win and should they block his victory I expect there will be riots in the streets the like America has never seen before

So much for free speech on HBOh, and I shouldn’t forget that according to WeAreChangeLA the security guards did just what Maher wanted and carried out some “ass kicking” against them! So much for the right(s) to dissent and protest too! You’d think a so-called “liberal” like Maher would respect those rights, but he’s a neolib AND NEOCON in disguise! Maher is disgusting! It will be interesting if he can get any more disgusting?! How much you want to wager that he can?! Bill Maher has had his annual mind control. This punk should be stripped of his ‘live status’. WE GIVE HIM HIS SHOW! The people will prevail Bill. You remember that.

  22. This American on October 21st, 2007

What people must remember is that the corporate media shills *opinions* have been owned for DECADES and while it is possible to think there may be a FEW left who don’t understand the 9-11 FRAUD on the American people, I would be hard pressed to believe Maher isn’t aware.Groups like the CFR who have on board the CEO’s of ALL of the major NEWZ BOYZ, are not going to blow the whistle on their OWN, there is too much money and power at stake.

Our media is really State-run media where corporate control has merged with State control and I would like to see more people start using the MORE accurate term — State-run media– as it gives us all a better picture where we are at. If the term is good enough for our commentators to use regarding Iran or China, then it is good enough to use in regard to these Fascist Party Line mouth pieces who spew only “official” State sanctioned versions of events.

  23. Jack on October 21st, 2007

I felt there was something not quite right about Maher when I first saw his act. I couldn’t put my finger on it, but I just felt that he wasn’t quite genuine. So I wait a few months and now this comes up, and again I learn to trust my instincts and not be swayed by words alone.

People have to remember that an entertainer will say and do anything they can to succeed in what is an extremely cut-throat business. If you take an entertainer seriously on any level then you’ll inevitably end up dissappointed. You’ll get the occasional skilled marksman like Bill Hicks, but even then, his primary aim was not to improve your understanding of the world, not to support effective political action, but to make you laugh.

  24. Tee on October 21st, 2007

I’m not at all surprised at Maher’s behavior. His extremely pro Israel stance gave me suspicions that his liberal stances are nothing but a facade. He is only staking out a position on the left for ratings and his own self interest.

It is sadly evident to me that Americans are on the whole quite satisfied with the fact that our government murdered over 3,000 of it’s own citizens; as long as it wasn’t them. Unfortunately, it is all of us because anyone of us could have been in those buildings.

We are in deep do do. America is deeply asleep. Lets pray that they will wake up.

  25. Truthseeker D on October 21st, 2007

I used to enjoy Bill Maher, but after his demonstration of callous disregard for those who are genuinely frustrated with the whole 911 issue and are desperate to be heard, I have lost any interest in him or his perspective on politics. Period.

  26. mike on October 22nd, 2007

I’m writing this because too often I read on these pages complaints with no form of constructive criticism. I seldom read of useful solutions to the often discussed topics discussed in this forum. It seems an oddity to me that so many people who are so disgruntled with our current state of affairs offer little other their ranting about what is wrong with sociaty. So here it is, my contribution to social redress of what ails us.
I agree that “simply” shouting out during live brodcasts is not an efficient manner to sway opinions. However nothing is without its rewards. Personally I believe that a more professional approach should be utilized. Lets face facts. In the main stream media arena the networks seem to have all the advantages. So why are these tactics not utilized more often on the internet?
Its to easy for main stream media to dismiss people like Alex as some kind of kook. The very energy that he pours into each pod cast is often touted against him as radical. The amount of information he needs to rattle through each segmant is simply too much too comprehend on many occasionsas not to mention the difficulty for one person to go through it in one show.
Fortunatly for us several favorable things are in play. The first is that Alex has a pretty good track record as far as accuracy goes wich lends volumes to his integrity and his credibility. The second is the mega growth of the internet and ease of finding just about anything you want (god bless search engines). The third is that Alex has already establisheed a larg viewer (listener) base. Now if he (and others lke him) would get profesional coaches.
We are all well aware that Alex has done a tremendous job himself and that his crew and the multitude of volenteers and contributing reporters are an exelent bunch (god bless you all). But no man is an island and some times things grow exponentialy making it difficult to moderate with so few people profesionaly trained in mass media. I simply believe that this is such a situation and that the next logical move is to utilize the multitudes of professionals out there who can contribute so much to this movement. Why else do you believe people would listen to dick heads like Bill Mahar as opposed to Alex?
I also believe that it is futile to simply tell people to not take your word for it and go look it up for themselves. Most people do not have the time to spend surfing the net looking up information to confirm or disprove their suspicions and since the statement “dont take my word for it” is in play many of them will choose to do just that. People need to feel confident in who they recieve their news from. Attaching a more proffesional aproach can lend those words of trueth more creadance and bring those trueths to more ears.

  27. Spoon on October 22nd, 2007

This is a profoundly well-written article. Very rich language and vocabulary. I’m not sure I agree with your implication that Bill Maher is “covering up” 9/11 truth, though. I’ve been watching him for years and I have no hard time saying he probably believes the official story and honestly does think truthers are loons. Let’s face it: some of them are. But he’s always been an ass. Truthers aren’t special in that regard.

That said, if this had been any other show, I would say 9/11 Truth is shooting itself in the foot by interrupting that which every American holds most dear: their entertainment. Send me a memo. Catch me after class. But don’t, for God’s sake, disturb my precious television. It just so happens that Maher had it coming. It pays to be an apologist.

Perhaps it really has come to the point when the burning sting of Patriotism must befall every sleeping citizen as our founding fathers represented in their day.

Or maybe we should just turn of the TV altogether.

  28. James on October 22nd, 2007

Maher needs to grow a brain. It seems he’s afraid to openly debate what happened on 9-11. It would be one debate that he’d lose hands down.
I love all the good work We Are Change have been doing to reveal who the real crooks are.

  29. john1977 on October 22nd, 2007

I wonder, when a statement is “moderated”, isn’t it being censured? How can an organization, such as Prison Planet, i.e. Alex Jones, who speaks of the Constitution so often, moderate statements on a website? I made a comment yesterday about this Bill Maher crap (which is hyped and a load of BS. Of course he wouldn’t want people yelling out questions on his show. Why would he? And why would he “cover up” 911? Don’t give me the CFR excuse either) and it was moderated as to not appear at all. Do you only choose the comments that fit your agenda??? I am a fan of Alex, but I must admit…I sometimes feel like he is the biggest fear mongerer out there. We’ll see if this statement even appears here. something tells me it won’t.

  30. Craig on October 22nd, 2007

    Bill Maher, typical hollywood no-talent.
Truly, does anybody really watch this guy?

  31. This American on October 22nd, 2007

john1977, obviously as you say Maher might not appreciate someone standing up and yelling questions on his show, and his dislike for that could be easily understood. But the bigger picture though is why do we see people like Maher either afraid or unwilling to look into questions even former members of our own CIA and military raise when they call the 9-11 commsion report a JOKE. And it IS a joke, a very sadistic one.

And to say CFR/TC control of the networks is an “excuse” is laughable. It is not only NOT an excuse, this corporate UNION not only has control over all of our state-run NEWZ it has control over BOTH sides of the aisle in our government. Maher and gatekeepers on the so called “left” are not going to bite the SAME hand that employs any more than so called “right” gatekeeper shills like O’reilly or Limbaugh or going to go “off topic”. I’m not so sure why fear of criticizing one’s boss on air is so hard to understand, to me it seems like a very logical conclusion. What happened to Rosie after wanting to openly address 9-11?

Quite simply 9-11 had INSIDE help at the LEAST, but think what you want, the “anomolies” that the 9-11 commision report either ignores or just shruggs off are OVERWHELMING, they are rather Smoking Guns. The only fairy tale being told is the “offical” State-sanctioned conspiracy theory about cave dwellers using box cutters to overcome the world’s largest and most well financed security apparatus on the planet, and by extension provide the VERY “Pearl Harbor” the PNAC Oil BOYZ lusted after for a pretext to kick off their wars/occupations for OIl/Israel/$$$/bases. MIllions of Americans now KNOW this and when Maher simply shows he is just another Gatekeeper by not even attempting to LOOK at the evidence, we will add him to the pile of refuse we will toss out of our viewing habits.

  32. john1977 on October 22nd, 2007

lo and behold! I’d like to speak frankly about Bill Maher. He has been speaking out against the Bush regime since the beginning. He has never supported the war and makes controversial insights all of the time. How can anybody think that he is supporting G W B? Just because he doesn’t buy into the 911 coverup doesn’t mean that he is on that side of the aisle. there are certainly a lot of people who don’t support the Bush Administration and still don’t believe the 911 Truth Movement. There are a lot of theories out there and just because I’m not sure that anybody has them 100% correct. Not until there is an honest and in-depth investigation will anybody know the actual truth. Remote control? Switching people out? come on! That far-fetched nonsense won’t help the movement. ALSO: Why does everybody who comments here have to be so sycophantic? I’m just wondering. I dig Alex’s boldness. I dig his cantor. But nobody here REALLY knows the truth. We all have our eyes closed to a degree, no matter what we think. peace.

  33. ethios4 on October 22nd, 2007

I agree with some of what is said here. I think there should absolutely be a real independent investigation of 9/11 (at least what is possible to investigate, given that much of the evidence has been destroyed), but this is not the way to do it at all. In fact, I often think the fanatacism Alex Jones and others generate is very counter-productive because they are selling this idea that there is an omnipotent eons-old conspiracy going on that is as powerful as one’s imagination would like to make it…so powerful in fact, that anyone with any power who doesn’t believe in this conspiracy is therefore part of the conspiracy in some way. And then you have the case like the guy who tried to break into Bohemian Grove with weapons to take everyone out, after brainwashing himself with an overdose of Alex Jones. Do your own thinking, do your own research, organize in a meaningful level-headed way that will actually accomplish something other than reinforcing the powerlessness felt by yourselves and other “truthers”. As stated above, 9/11 was a television event for a reason…you will not be effective by disrupting TV with slogans, you will not be effective by polarizing the debate into people who already “believe” and people who think “truthers” are full of shit. You might get something done by amassing the most hardcore facts you can find, assembling the information in some consice, easily-digestible form, and finding a way to distribute this en masse. This has been done before in some ways, and when it is done in this way it is effective. If the “conspiracy” version of 9/11 is true, there should be a defensible path of logic and facts that confirms this, without resorting to emotional tactics and leaps of conspiratorial faith.

Ask yourself this : are you surrounding yourself with information from all sides, or are you taking in only what agrees with what you already think?

  34. This American on October 22nd, 2007

“Ask yourself this: are you surrounding yourself with information from all sides…?”

Yep, pretty much. That’s actually all I’ve personally advocated people ever do. Thruth of matters obviously will have to be found by each indiviudal, but there is by FAR enough information from ALL corners of the spectrum IMO to indicate, YES the 9-11 *official * fairy tale AS IS is pretty much flawed (to put it mildly) and we have a VERY complicit press that is aidng the effort to keep that fairy tale alive.

“an omnipotent eons old conspiracy going on…”

Well duh. It’s called “king of the hill”. Social Darwinism, perhaps. Rich folk have UNIONS too. Some folks will do ANYTHING to try and stay “on top”, and when one is talking billions, or perhaps trillions….. and all of that damn oil… just sittin there…
